Eric Muriithi Muga: Inside 32-Year-Old Water, Sanitation and Irrigation CS Nominee’s Decorated Career

President William Ruto named eleven Cabinet Secretaries to assist him with the day-to-day functioning of the administration.

He chose 32-year-old Eric Muriithi Muuga to succeed Zachariah Njeru as CS of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation.

Muriithi is a Civil Engineer and water resource enthusiast with over eight years of expertise in engineering project operations and management, water hydraulic modeling, water and wastewater network design, water treatment plants and other water structures.

He earned a master’s degree in civil engineering (water resources) from the University of Nairobi.

Muriithi also has a bachelor’s degree in civil and construction engineering [First Class Honours] from the University of Nairobi.

He worked as an assistant project engineer for the Water and Sanitation Development Project (WSDP).

Muriithi also worked as an assistant project engineer at KIMAWASCO and a design engineer for Kenya Towns’ Sustainable Water and Supply Sanitation Program.

According to his resume, he was a design engineer for the Kenya Sustainable Town Water Supply and Sanitation Program.

He has also worked on last-mile connectivity projects for Narok, including Kabarnet and Marigat Towns, as well as Kabartonjo and Chemolingon Urban Centre.

Muriithi also worked as an assistant engineer on Murang’a County’s Feasibility Study and Preparation of Water Supply Masterplan in 2019.

Between July 2018 and March 2019, he worked as a design engineer on the detailed design, ESIA/RAP, and tender documents for Mombasa’s water distribution works and three water service providers.

Muriithi spent his early years as a volunteer teacher at Kirindine Day Secondary School-Meru County from May 2010 to July 2011.

Muriithi was then assigned with teaching and tutoring pupils in topics like as mathematics, physics, business studies and geography.

He also worked with the Kenya Red Cross Society – UoN Chapter in 2015, where he provided basic first aid services at local events and participated in volunteer street cleaning in Nairobi.

Muriithi is a Graduate Engineer registered with both the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) and the Institution of Engineers of Kenya.
