Hapana tambua: Dave Chappelle turns down request to meet President Ruto

American comedian Dave Chapelle arrived in Kenya ahead of his comedy show on Wednesday, May 29, at the Louis Leaky Auditorium.

Punchline Comedy Club who are the official promoters of the event announced that the Chappelle show will kick off at 8 PM.

While the tickets were sold out in just two hours, each ticket was going for Ksh 7,000.

In an interview with Tuko, Eric, who is among the promoters of the rare event confirmed that Chapelle has arrived in the country.

Additionally, he explained that several powerful people have been reaching out to meet the comedian but their attempts have been unfruitful.

Eric mentioned that the State House and the Office of the Senate of Nairobi are among the government entities that have contacted him.

“He’s in the country. He does not do things by second chances. We had the office of the senate of Nairobi asking for tickets. We’ve had a request from the state house for him to meet the president, but unfortunately, the way his schedule is set up, he does not have time to do that. The arts do not accept hierarchy,” he said.

Eric also emphasized that cell phones will not be allowed into the comedian’s show and attendees using their phones will be thrown out.

“No cellphones, cameras or recording devices will be allowed at this show. Upon arrival, all phones and smart watches will be secured in Yondr pouches that will be unlocked at the end of the show

“Guests maintain possession of their phones throughout the night, and if needed, may access their phones at designated Yondr unlocking stations in the lobby,” a statement by Punchline Comedy Club read.

The event organiser explained that Chappelle and his production company, Pilot Boy Productions, owned all the rights to the content and material delivered during his performance.

“Anyone caught with a cell phone in the venue will be immediately ejected. Pilot Boy Productions, Inc. and/or Dave Chappelle own all rights in the content and materials, including any jokes and sketches (the “Materials”) delivered during his performance,” Punchline Comedy Club added.
