Priscilla Gakuru: Nairobi Woman Who Turned Into a Millionaire Through Whistling

Do you know that whistling alone can bring you success?

Yes, just whistling!

That’s the story of Mrs. Priscilla Gakuru, popularly known as ‘Priscilla wa Imani’.

Mrs. Gakuru gained immense popularity on social media last year, 2023, due to her unique whistling skills.

It’s noteworthy that she’s a woman.

Often, this skill is associated with men. Therefore, many people were amazed by her ability to whistle like other male whistlers.

In a current Interview, Mrs. Gakuru said that whistling is a habit that helps her relax and clear her mind of many thoughts.

“Everyone has their own habits. This is mine. I find unique solace in whistling,” she said in the interview.

Mrs. Gakuru is married and a businesswoman in Nyahururu town, Laikipia County.

Contrary to many people’s expectations, she says her husband supports her unique habit.

“My husband has no problem with my habit. Instead, he supports me and sometimes even teaches me!” she said.

Mrs. Gakuru is a mother of three; a boy and two girls. She says none of her children has shown interest in her habit.

Apart from gaining massive popularity online and nationwide, what successes has she achieved?

Mrs. Gakuru says that despite some people seeing her as “crazy,” she has achieved a lot through whistling.

She believes that if she hadn’t gained fame and popularity, it wouldn’t have been through videos of her whistling going viral.

“I have achieved a lot. Thanks to my popularity, I have become an ambassador for several real estate companies. I managed to do this through contracts I signed with those companies. It has helped me make money that I invested in my business,” Mrs. Gakuru said.

She also mentions that due to her unique path to fame, she has been invited to various events nationwide to entertain guests and dignitaries.

“At these events, I am not invited as an artist. My entertainment is unique. I am invited to whistle for people!” she said with a big laugh.

She says she has had the opportunity to mingle with famous people, such as ministers and other top leaders.

“It’s a great honor when you are invited to entertain people in a way that many consider a joke,” she said.

However, she explains that she hasn’t only used her fame for personal gain. As a woman, she has used her fame to help disadvantaged communities, especially those living in slums in urban areas.

Some of the areas where she has run this program include the impoverished Mathare slum in Nairobi.

“I have been raising money online to help families living in that area get food. My belief is that, as a mother, it’s not enough to use my fame for my benefit alone but also to help other less fortunate people in the community,” she said.
