Police are investigating an incident where a businessman allegedly shot himself dead while inside his car, in what appears to be a case of suicide in the Sunvalley neighborhood of Lang’ata, Nairobi.
Abraham Meli had locked himself inside his four-wheel-drive car – a Prado – and sustained a severe gunshot wound to the head.
The reason for the incident is still unknown, police said.
Meli is a former soldier and had a gun owner’s license, his family and police said.
He was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon police arrival.
His pistol was found inside the car where he had shot himself and was taken into custody, police said.
Police said he had sent a text message to relatives that read “Sunvalley.” This is where he resided.
Police said they are investigating the incident to determine the cause. Friends and family are seeking to understand the motive behind his actions.
His body was transported to the morgue awaiting examination. Police said they are now treating the incident as a suicide.
