Football enthusiasts in Kenya are eagerly anticipating the Kenyan Premier League fixture between Police FC and Gor Mahia, scheduled to take place at the Police Sacco Stadium on Saturday.
However, the excitement is accompanied by a hefty price tag, as Police FC has set a record for entry charges, with tickets ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 Kenyan Shillings.
The announcement, made on the club’s social media platforms, outlined the pricing structure: VVIP tickets at 3,000 Ksh, VIP tickets at 2,000 Ksh, and terraces at 1,500 Ksh.
This move stirred discussions with fans expressing concern over the affordability of attending such high-profile matches.
To streamline the ticketing process, Police FC is adopting an online system, aligning with the evolving trend in Kenyan football.
”The link to access our tickets will be broadcasted on all our social media platforms from today 12noon to Friday 5.00pm . No tickets will be sold on matchday.” Part of Police FC statement read.
Sources believe that the match has been priced higher in an effort to control the crowd, especially considering Gor Mahia’s substantial fan base.
“They have implemented this measure for crowd control. The absence of an alternative match venue for this game has compelled the home team to return to their original home ground. Despite initial considerations for Nyayo Stadium and Ulinzi Complex, both options have been ruled out, possibly due to concerns related to the formidable Green Army,” a source revealed with a touch of disappointment.
Ahead of the clash Gor Mahia boasts an undefeated record this season, leading the standings with 43 points after 19 matches.
