Gor Mahia forward Benson Omala is keen to break his last season’s goal tally following the impressive start in the current campaign.
Omala leads the top scorer’s chart with seven goals from ten rounds and will be looking to add more goals under his name when defending champions square off with newbies Murang’a Seal on Saturday.
“As a striker, I want to break my record because I have set it there. So far we are at 26, if I add two or one this season, I will have achieved my goal,” he disclosed.
The striker who lost the ‘Golden Boot’ race to Elvis Rupia last season by a goal said he was breaking sweat in order to hit new highs this term.
“I just keep working. Decisions are from the coach and I do not take them personally. I keep working because I know if it comes it will come. I know that if I am doing everything right, the scoreboard will take care of itself,” he offered.
With his name already on the national team squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Omala hopes to secure more minutes under his belt. He further noted that his fans put him under the pressure to deliver.
“If I do not score, fans put me under pressure. I have put in the work this week, and I hope to add more goals under my name this weekend,” Omalla briefly said.
Meanwhile, coach Johnathan McKinstry called on fans to turn up in large numbers, and back the team when they play the high-flying Seal who are placed second with 20 points.
Gor are behind the debutants although both teams have a similar tally.
“It will be a huge game. Murang’a Seal is in great form. They have come from the National Super League and have been playing well. Both teams are on 20 points. We are looking to go higher. Last season we had a record of 11 unbeaten games. So far, we are in the 10th unbeaten game, and we are hoping to match that record. Fans really push us and help us get over the line, we want to enjoy the game, we have the new club bus, new merchandise, it will be great,” McKinstry
