Tanzanian singer Vanessa Mdee, currently based in Atlanta, has found herself in the spotlight after an online fan took a critical stance on her relationship with her boyfriend, Rotimi, and her career choices.
Vanessa, who was promoting Rotimi’s new project on her social media page, faced comments from a fan known as Amydiasss.
Amydiasss expressed concern over Vanessa’s decision to step away from her music career to support Rotimi.
To this, Vanessa said: “I will gladly support my husband and gladly raise our children and gladly stand for what I love. My Sister, life is not social media. P.S.: The royalty checks still coming in.”
“I know for a fact he cheats on you, and I feel so sorry for you. He doesn’t deserve you throwing your career away because he cheats in the most disrespectful way. And he’s not your husband. He’s not yet married you. I really hope you make out well in the end because you deserve so much better. He’s a sex addict and weirdo. You guys are playing perfect for social media,” the fan said.
This is not the first time Vanessa has faced online scrutiny regarding her relationship with Rotimi.
In 2020, she refuted claims of assault by Rotimi, saying her partner has never laid a hand on her. She also dismissed allegations that her boyfriend had a history of assaulting women.
“I will not be bullied on social media; I will not be that person Wanahabari wataandika kitu juu yangu alafu nitabaki kimya. Team yangu ya social media, imenijuza kuhusu comments kutokana na watu kusema kuwa Rotimi ananipiga, ati ni mtu ambaye anapiga wanawake,” Vanessa said on that occassion.
She further explained that the rumours about the assault claims stemmed from a post made by Rotimi’s ex-girlfriend, who had accused her ex-boyfriend (not Rotimi) of assaulting her.
Vanessa went as far as threatening legal action against anyone attempting to tarnish her reputation and that of Rotimi.
