Gor Mahia legend George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo has left the club after bagging his seventh title with the club.
Odhiambo’s third stint with the club has come to an end, and he departs after winning the 2022–23 FKF Premier League title with the record league champions. His destination remains unknown.
The 30-year-old first joined Gor Mahia in 2009 straight from Thurgem secondary school and lasted for two seasons before leaving the club for Denmark. He would return to the club in 2014 after stints with Rangers, Kups, Azam, Shirak, Ulisses, and Nairobi City Stars, and played for K’Ogalo for five years before departing for Tusker in 2019. After two seasons with the Brewers, he rejoined Gor in 2021, probably for his final stint with his boyhood club.
Odhiambo, with seven FKF Premier League titles to his name, is arguably the most successful player in terms of league titles won. He won six of the titles with Gor Mahia and one with Tusker FC.
Also leaving the club is midfielder Peter Oudu, who has joined Posta Rangers, and Peter Lwasa, who departs after the expiration of his contract. Shafik Kagimu moved to North Macedonia, while Dennis Ng’ang’a is now on the books of Zanaco in the Zambian Premier League.
The club has also made some acquisitions; Lawrence Juma returns to the club from AS Kigali, and Rooney Onyango, formerly with Wazito, has finally landed at Gor Mahia. Other new players include Kennedy Onyango, Alvin Ochieng, Kevin Juma, and Kevin Omondi.
