Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho was on Friday allegedly detained at Urban Police Station in Mombasa County.
According to Mombasa County Communications Director Richard Chacha, the Governor was detained after he went to visit a relative who was arrested earlier in the day.
However, Inspector General Joseph Boinnet denied that Joho had been arrested. Instead, he said that Mr. Joho had gone to the police station to demand for the release of his arrested relative.
Sources at the station said that Joho had been detained apparently for causing disturbance. He was in the company of with Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir, who was alsoe held at the station.
