Mozzart Bet Cup winners Kakamega Homeboyz have been paired against Al Hilal Benghazi of Libya in the first preliminary round of CAF Confederation Cup that gets underway in August.
Homeboyz won the ticket to play in the continental scene when they defeated Tusker FC in the Cup final on 1st July. They will be making their continental debut against the Libyan club. Homeboyz will host the first round of the tie.
Following Gor Mahia’s expulsion from the continental scene, Abana be Ingo will be the only Kenyan men’s team in the continental scene. The league winners were kicked out for not complying with all Club Licensing requirements.
Should Homeboyz progress to the second preliminary round they will face Rayon Sports of Rwanda and the aggregate winner of the tie will qualify for the CAF Confederation group stage.
Homeboyz resumed training a week ago in preparation for the tournament. They are also beefing up their squad in readiness for the tournament. The new faces at the club include Ugandan striker Davies Kasirye, Alex Imbusia from Sofapaka and midfielder Stephen Opoku who returns to the club after six months.
The first leg of the preliminary round will be played between September 15th to 17th, 2023 (Home), while the second leg to be played between September 29 and October 1, 2023 (Away).
