Kakamega Homeboyz set to overhaul squad by dropping 10 players

Fresh from winning their maiden FKF Cup, Kakamega Homeboyz is set to overhaul their squad by dropping 10 players.

The club is expected to announce the departure of the released players by next week. The imminent exit of the players comes barely a week after the Kakamega-based outfit claimed the FKF Cup, which represents their first-ever major trophy.

Although they were not favourites to lift the cup, Homeboyz ended up stunning Premier League heavyweights, Tusker FC at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani on Sunday.

Dropping 10 players might sound like a shocking move given that this is a unit that has been together for some time. The club is however going to take part in the CAF Confederation Cup, and in that competition, they will need a deep squad that can withstand the pressure that comes with the international stage.

In their ranks, they have experienced players like Farouk Sikhalo, Robinson Kamura, Kevin Amwayi, and Chris Masinza, but none have extensive experience in continental football.

Should the 10 be released, it would be interesting to see which players would be brought on board.

After winning the cup, former FKF president Sam Nyamweya lauded the club’s chairman Cleophas Shimanyula for how he has built the squad over time.

“I am happy with the way he has built a team of young and experienced players. They have had a good season in the league and now in the domestic cup, and I am sure they will not let Kenyans down in the Confederation Cup,” Nyamweya said.
