Aussems speaks of contract extension at Leopards amid departure reports

AFC Leopards’ head coach, Patrick Aussems, has hinted at the possibility of staying with the club beyond the current season, dismissing rumors of an imminent departure.

The Belgian tactician joined AFC Leopards in 2020, coming from Simba, and has faced numerous challenges while managing the team, including a FIFA ban due to the wrongful dismissal of former players.

Despite these obstacles, Aussems has successfully built a competitive team, utilizing a core group of young players.

In the previous two seasons, AFC Leopards finished fourth and sixth in the league, respectively, showcasing their progress under his leadership.

Currently, after 30 games played, they stand seventh in the league.

Despite reports suggesting Aussems’ departure and the potential appointment of Anthony “Modo” Kimani as his successor, the 57-year-old coach remains focused on the present.

In a recent interview, Aussems stated that he is concentrating on the remaining games of the season.

“It is not the time to talk about my future. I am focusing on all our games until the end of the season. That is what is most important to me,” Aussems told Pulse Sports.

“I am looking forward to helping my team of very good players develop. If not this season, next season if I am still there.”

Prior to his tenure with AFC Leopards, Aussems achieved success at Simba, winning the Tanzanian Premier League title in the 2018-2019 season and leading the team to the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.
