Harambee Starlets players abroad face financial burden as FKF refuses to cover travel expenses ahead of Albania friendly match

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has found itself in hot water once again after allegedly refusing to cater for transport for Harambee Stars players who play their football abroad.

This has raised concerns about the federation’s commitment to adequately supporting the national team, especially as they prepare for their upcoming international friendly match against Albania on April 11, 2023.

The players are reportedly being asked to pay for their own air tickets back home, which could create financial strain on them and discourage them from participating in future national team duties.

“I don’t know if i will honour the match because FKF has asked me to pay for the air ticket from my own pocket back home,” a player who sought anonymity told Newsday Kenya.

However, despite these challenges, Harambee Starlets coach Godfrey Oduor named a provisional squad of 33 players for the international friendly match against Albania.

The squad features a blend of in-form local-based players and experienced foreign-based players, including lethal striker Esse Akida, who plies her professional trade with PAOK of Greece, and Jentrix Shikangwa, who turns out for Simba Queens in the Tanzanian Premier League.

The squad also includes new players such as Desma Nyawade and Maximila Robi, who play for Kisped Queens and Kibera Soccer in the FKF Women’s Division One, as well as Monalizer Anyango from Zetech Sparks, Ketsi Ngaira from Ulinzi Starlets, and Valentine Khwaka from Gaspo Women.
