ODM leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday toured Taita Taveta Taveta County with a message of peace, prosperity, and support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Addressing residents during his stopovers at Bura, Mghange, and Mwakishimba, Raila alluded to the bible, saying that the BBI is the ark that will ferry Kenyans to Canaan; the utopian land of milk and honey.

The former Prime Minister told the residents that the BBI will deal the final blow to negative ethnicity while ensuring that more funding flows at the grassroots level.

At the same time, he called for devolved services like health, water, and agriculture to receive a higher funds allocation.

Raila pointed out that the Ksh.316B being distributed to the 47 Counties is a relatively small amount, hence the need for more funds allocation towards development at the county level.

On matters of corruption, Odinga stated that any corrupt leader is an enemy of the people and should be considered as such.

Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja who was flanking the ODM leader welcomed the latter’s sentiments and urged the locals to back the BBI initiative.

He promised to work with President Uhuru and Raila to oversee development projects in the county.

The BBI wave had taken a break following the outbreak of the new coronavirus that has infected over 35,000 Kenyans and killed 607 since March this year.

The initiative, a brainchild of a truce between Raila and President Uhuru has been lauded as the magical cure that Kenya needs to heal tribalism and cycles of post-election violence.
