Gideon Moi in court to stop Jubilee Party launch

Gideon Moi was set to appear in court today, Thursday, September 8, at 2:30pm to seek orders restraining the soon-to-be-launched Jubilee Party from using its party colors.

KANU party colours are those found on the Kenyan flag; black, red, green and white. Jubilee used the same colours too.

Yesterday, Wednesday, September 7, it was reported that Muungano Party, an affiliate party of the CORD coalition threatened to sue the Jubilee Party if they proceeded with their grand launch.

The party’s leader, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, accused the party of copying their slogan by using the word ‘Pamoja’.

According to the Daily Nation, Muungano threatened to sue Jubilee if they did not refrain from using the slogan because they coined it first.

“Jubilee Party has been registered and allowed to use the slogan. This is illegal. There is now a perception that we are among the parties that have joined the Jubilee Party, which is not the case. Our members are distressed by this,” read a letter written by Lawrence Nzunga, the Sec. Gen of Muungano.

The letter was addressed to the Registrar of Political Parties. Muungano’s party symbol comprises of two interlinked rings with the slogan ‘Pamoja’. Jubilee Party’s symbol is two hands locked in a grip with the slogan ‘Tuko Pamoja’.
