Covid-19 Update: 155 New Cases, 102 Discharged, 3 Succumbed- Total No Of 4,952

Kenya’s Coronavirus cases have risen to 4,952 after 155 individuals tested positive for Covid-19 in 24 hours on Tuesday, June 23.

The results are drawn from a total of 4,171 samples tested in 24 hours with Kibra registering the highest number of cases registered in a sub-county across the country.

During the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi stated that 102 had been discharged, bringing the number of recoveries to 1,782.

Three patients succumbed to the disease over the same period bringing the total number of fatalities to 128.

120 of the cases were male while 35 are female with the youngest being a one-year-old and the oldest was aged 77.

The distribution of cases in counties is as follows; Nairobi (104), Busia (19), Migori (10), Mombasa (9), Uasin Gishu (4), Kiambu (3), Machakos (2), Nakuru (2), Kisumu (1) and Kajiado (1).

In Nairobi County, the cases are from; Kibera (20), Dagoretti North (17), Starehe (13), Westlands (10), Mathare (9), Langata (8), Kasarani (6), Embakassi South (4), Roysambu (4), Ruaraka (4), Kamukunji (3), Makadara (2), Embakasi East (2), Dagoetti South (1), Embakasi East (1).

Busia has 19 cases from Teso South (14) and Matayos (5) while Migori has 10 cases from Kuria West (6), Kuria East (3), and Nyatike (1).

The 9 cases from Mombasa are distributed as follows; Jomvu (4), Mvita (3), Nyali (1), and Changamwe (1).

Mwangangi stated that the Ministry had noted a reduction in other infectious diseases arguing that Kenyans seemed to have become more cautious.

The CAS stressed that the Sexual Reproductive and Health Rights (SRHR) needed to be prioritized owing to a sharp rise in reported teenage pregnancies.

“We are interrogating the data with the counties. Teenage motherhood is catastrophic and disempowering. One pregnancy is a pregnancy too many,” she stated.
